Hundreds of students show up for Edible Campus meeting on April 20

Edible Campus, the gardening club that brings free produce to students at UNC, saw record numbers at Saturday’s gardening meeting early on April 20.

“I was absolutely amazed by the turnout for our weeding day!” Freddie Budd, the program’s coordinator, said. “I’ve never seen this many eager green thumbs.”

Waves of eager students floated in for the event.

“I’m so glad I came,” Dylan Post, freshman, said. “I’ve never tried weeds before, so it’s exciting that UNC gives us an opportunity to dabble. It’s even a CLE credit!”

In the crowd, dozens of students, dazed and confused, stood around the garden beds. As some students managed to form enough of a thought to understand the true goal of weeding day, they threw their grinders on the ground in frustration.

“Dude, it’s just, like, false advertising,” senior Dylan Wells said. “No handouts, just weeds. I even brought my churner out here for some fresh cannabutter.”

Another student, Carla Rojas, also shared the sentiment.

“I guess the real celebration will have to be at home,” she said. “I got some fresh carrots though, ain’t mad at that!”

Others eagerly engaged in the activity, still none the wiser.

“It was pretty strange seeing these freshman kids bagging up the weeds,” Budd said. “They’re not really the produce we’re aiming to grow, but hey, waste not want not!”

After an hour, the garden was left looking spotless, and the club is set to receive additional funding after the unprecedented turnout.
