The top five reasons to watch Dune 2—although none of us actually had three hours to watch the movie

Need I say more? The movie’s name is literally Dune—there’s got to be some amount of sand involved. Sand all over the screen for nearly three hours. What more could you want from a movie? Think of all the fun things you can do with sand. Imagine just sitting in some sand right now—wouldn’t your life be better? Most movies barely have any sand, and this one has a lot of it. I’m not sure what metrics you use for rating movies, but Dune 2 has got to be number one in the sand category. As they always say: every good joke has a grain of truth, and every good movie has a grain of sand.

The Dune popcorn bucket design at AMC theaters is a cool design—if you haven’t seen what it looks like, you need to go watch Dune 2. The narrow opening surrounded by hundreds of flexible finger-like structures ensures that whatever you stick into the dark bottom of the popcorn bucket will be gently, albeit firmly, caressed along the way. I spoke with several single, middle-aged men exiting the movie theater after watching Dune 2, and the only thing they could remember about the entire experience was the popcorn bucket, so it’s clearly a highlight of the film. In particular, one man adamantly recommended asking for extra butter in the bucket, so be sure to do the same whenever you finally end up watching the film.

For all of you people with trust issues out there waiting for the perfect opportunity to test the strength of your relationship, Dune 2 is the chance you’ve been waiting for—trust me on this one. When you enter the movie theater, grab your drinks, take a seat, and before you get distracted by your popcorn apparatus, ask your partner: “would you still love me if I was a sandworm?” Give them some time to think—you’ll have three hours to get a response from them—but once they reply, think critically about their answer. It goes without saying that if they initially answer “no,” your relationship is doomed, but if they answer “yes, of course,” feel free to ask logical follow ups like: “okay, but be honest this time, would you actually still love me if I was a sandworm?” One way or another, by the end of Dune 2 you’ll know if your current partner is the one for you, and if not, you’ll always have the popcorn bucket to console you.

I haven’t yet looked through the entire cast list for Dune 2, but a quick glance at the movie posters told me that both Zendaya and the white guy from the Spiderman movies seem to be in this movie, and I’m pretty sure they’re still dating. That means the on-screen dynamic between the actors will be sensational. The fact that the producers of Dune 2 are basically just copying what made Spiderman popular suggests a lack of creativity, but I think the added chemistry among the film’s cast can only help the overall performance. Plus, the time spent in the sun while filming is probably a good idea for the Spiderman guy—he looks a lot paler than usual.

I already mentioned the popcorn bucket earlier, but I cannot stress its significance enough. As I’ve compiled this exhaustive list of reasons to watch Dune 2, I’ve found myself obsessing over the suggestive, dare I say seductive, shape of the popcorn bucket. The design is revolutionary, and I cannot think of anything I’d rather do than sit in a dark movie theater with a butter-filled Dune 2 popcorn bucket. Honestly, forget about the movie-watching experience itself, maybe I want a Dune 2 popcorn bucket to myself for a couple of hours—I’ve had a pretty stressful week. I can’t imagine I’d be dissatisfied with spending three hours watching the film alongside the pleasurable company of my popcorn bucket. I just hope there’s no sand in it.
